STRUCTURE FIRE
LILAC DRIVE

Early this morning Companies 6, 5, and 1 were alerted to the 200 block of Lilac Drive for smoke coming from the structure of a residential house. Upon C-60 arriving he added Truck 4 to the assignment for staffing and engine crews went to work trying to establish a water supply. During this process PD was able to contact the home owners and find out that they were not home at the time and accounting for all family members.

Engine Crews tried numerous hydrants in the neighborhood and each time they encountered frozen hydrants due to the extreme cold conditions the past two weeks. At this time Command requested a second alarm for assistance of the water supply. Crews were able to establish a working hydrant which resulted in a lay of over 2,400 feet of supply line to the fire scene. Tanker 5 was alerted to the scene during this process and command also requested two tankers from Westmoreland County to assist. Crews from Tanker 5 and the engine crews were able to provide enough water for interior crews to make entry and the assisting takers were staged at Company 4 with standby companies for a period of time.

Crews brought the fire under control within the hour and units began extensive cleanup and overhaul of the structure. Crews were out about four hours during the incident.

During the incident Murrysville EMS was staged at Company 4 to cover calls in town and ended up running one call.

Our thanks to everyone for a job well done, and to all of the standby companies for their assistance as well.
