Just before 1600 hrs companies 4 and 5 were dispatched to a large brush fire in the wooded area between McGinley Road and Westinghouse Energy Center. E-42 arrived on scene to find heavy smoke well into the wooded area from the roadway and began to investigate the seat of the fire. E-51 arrived and assisted E-42 crew with investigation. As crews arrived at the seat of the fire, they reported that an area about the size of a football field involved with winds of 15-20 mph. E-42 and E-51 crew began attacking the fire with handlines. A second alarm was requested and brought Company 1 and Mini 3. Command also requested additional manpower from Companies 4 and 5 by alerting the stations again. Tanker 5 arrived and provided addition water to the units operating. Co. 1 and Mini 3 arrived and assisted with fire attack. The fire was brought under control in about an hour.
