Just after 8:00am the Truck crew was alerted for a possible structure fire
at the corner of James Street and Monroeville Road in District 1. Chief 10
arrived with smoke emitting from a third floor apartment and also had a
telephone pole and three large transformers on the ground just past the
scene. E-12 arrived first with T-4 arriving and assisting the interior crew in with
E-12's hose team to perform search and ventillation operations of the building. The exterior crew
laddered the building, attempted to secure the utilities and ran fans to
assist in the ventilation of the third floor. Due to the hazard of the
downed pole and transformers E-12 needed to extend their attack line
before quickly knocking down the fire. The fire was contained to a single
third story apartment and all occupants made it out safely. One
firefighter was evaluated at the scene for possible dehydration and over
exertion.
