Incident writeup of event
Around 10:00AM on a snowy morning, Station 4 was dispatched to the PA Turnpike onramp (from Rt 376) for a reported tour bus that rolled down the embankment. Medic 49 which was just returning to quarters from several previous morning calls responded. M49 arrived on scene to find a tour bus down an embankment lying on it's side with numerous injuries still on board. C-46 (Valentine) declared a mass casualty situation, requested all available Monroeville EMS units, and an additional Rescue. With the incident location right next to IT Office Building and Holiday Inn, triage was established inside the IT Office Bldg due to it's location to the accident and the ability to move emergency vehicles in and out without any problems. It was quickly determinded that there were approx 35 injuries, and at this time C41 (Asst Chief Edgar) arrived on scene requesting a 2nd alarm for manpower, a 3rd rescue truck and Command 32.
